I struggled a bit with this last Thing.I had no problem with Google Scholar or the Pollak Library Find It. Both worked well at finding the information I was looking for. The Citation finder was great at finding the individual article and copying and pasting it was no trouble but getting it to work was a problem.
When I changed the pieces of information in Citation Finder and clicked on it a "No Results Found" came up and a form to fill out to correct any errors. This tells me it is a good idea to know what you are looking for.
I can see where this open URL is a great asset to teachers and Librarians where they can post the Citation of the actual article they want the students to study.
Without Mikey's help I could not have got this Citation to work. It is not easy if you do not have knowledge of how these links are supposed to work. Thanks to Mikey's patience I now know how to post and have the Citation Link work. I chose something awkward instead of something easy. I don't think people are interested in the carbon effect on global warming so I posted something I enjoyed and hope you will too.

Thing # 9 Wikis
Wikis are a great way to have instruction manuals that everyone can contribute their knowledge and experience to. I would like to set up a Wiki for Library Systems Students so they can have an electronic way of looking up things and adding to it instead of having to look it up in our binder that I try to keep up to date. They never want to add to the binder, unless I tell them to, but they would add to a Wiki. Mikey is going to help me set one up under Library Systems Team for internal use only.
pbwiki seems a good way of starting your own wiki.
Wikipedia is great and I use it to look up information. I understand that it is not Encylopedia Brittanica but it has helped me. It was interesting to learn how to edit the information on Wikipedia and it was good to know that they vet new additions. I think it has more a positive impact personally but I am not a Librarian.

Thing #8 Cloud Computing
I think it is really a really good thing to be able to add to a document that several people are working on. It sure saves time and effort compared to sending attachments and waiting for people to send them back edited. You have to give permission for people to access it so there is some privacy so not every Tom Dick and Harry can see it or add to it.
I managed to see the document I was supposed to add to but owing to my email address being @fullerton.edu it would not let me add my comments to it. I guess Cloud Computing will become more common but I can see there are still bugs they have to fix as in my case.

Delicious Thing #7
I downloaded Delicious and added the sites, and tagged the ones I use quite often. I think it is a good, quick way to gain access to them and share, if you want, with others.
The link below is to my social bookmarking.

This is definitely good for librarians and teachers so they can have the links in Delicious for very quick access and tagging makes it even easier to find what you are looking for. Students will also find this useful. This is very good for work but I would not like to use it otherwise.
My computer screen is getting smaller and smaller with all the toolbars I have been downloading for this WEB 2.0 project.

Thing # 6 Beyond I E
I downloaded firefox then had to download Adobe Flash Player then firefox prevented me from downloading LibX. I had to click allow before it would download LibX. Now I have the LibX toolbar in my firefox browser.
LibX is an excellent tool to use to find just about any book or journal in the Library.
I can see where it is very useful.
I tried to download Dictionary Search several times with no success. Every time firefox says restart and I click on the restart it says " firefox will try and restore your tabs and windows when it restarts" that is telling me I will probably lose something when it restarts so that is not very comforting.
I then tried and succeeded to download Google toolbar and that was successful.
I think it is good to have a choice in browsers so you can use the one you that is easy to use and you are comfortable with. The plug ins and add ons are not always successful with firefox but some seem to work. I am writing this blog on firefox and just hope it goes through. As you see I am not very trusting of this browser yet.

Thing #5 Do you Jing?
I have completed this task one week early as I will not be available next week.
I can see where Jing would be useful for quick instructions on how to use equipment, copiers for example. I had a student only yesterday who had no clue how to use one of the library's public copiers if we had the instructions on Jing available that would be good.
I don't have any favorite data base to make a video and I also have no microphone for sound so I made a quick video of my Bio slide.
Now the problem I have is to somehow embed it in this blog. They do not give any instructions on how to do it so I will try and paste and see what happens.

Well the link came up so lets hope it works.

Pollak Library #4 of 10 Things
I found it interesting to be able to post photos on Flikr and I did not know the Library had its own Flikr site. The only thing I don't like is having to join all these different sites to use their products. I have had to create several new accounts and I am only at Thing # 4. I guess that is what you have to do to be part of WEB 2.0
Flikr does not make it easy to post the pictures in a different blog from Yahoos. I had to have my students show me how to do it. Now I know how to do it. I am enjoying these "10 Things" as I am learning how to use these products.
